Photography for a beginner...

Any sites that'll give me the low down on the more technical stuff? I have an A40, and I'd like to know more about the manual settings like shudder speed, setting the exposure, stuff like that... I'm also in finding some lenses to get the kind of pictures I want - anything that'll serve as a basic guide to stuff like this? 🙂

shutter, not shutter speed

exposure = Shutter + Apeture (shown on the A40 as Fx (f2, F4.8)

*** Apeture tells you how large the lens is open. The smaller the number, the bigger the lens opening and less depth of field.
The larger the number (f8), the smaller the the lens and less light comes through, more depth of field.

*** shutter speed is how fast the shutter opens to let light hight the film.

here are some common numbers on SLRs, they vary on the A40, i also have this camera.

1.2 - 2 - 2.8 - 4 - 5.6 - 8 - 11 - 16 .... each whole stop (either up or down) doubles light or cuts the life in half. if you go from 1.2 to 2, you've just CUT the light entering the lens by 50%. To make up for the lost of light in the apeture, you have to correct it in the shutter and let in more light (slower shutter).

if exposure = F1.2 + 1000 shutter --- then...
exposure = f2 + 500 shutter
exposure = f4 + 125 shutter

catch the drift ?

here's the catch with A40, there is no automatic read settings in Manual or Program Mode. It's catch and play. So play around with it and find it out. The only thing i don't like about the A40 is shooting in Apeture or Shutter priority. Guess ill upgrade at a later date.

If ya need more help, hit me a pm, as i have more info and the same camera.
