Portable Storage Devices (PSDs) like the Epson are more catered to people like the travel photographer or the backpacker. If your wife is just doing something like outdoor portraiture, I would definitely invest in lighting, flashes, and a very good portraiture lens. As for the storage, get her more CF cards or just bring the laptop with you. Or go for a PSD without a screen (Hyperdrive HD80 or stuff here); just take as many pictures as you want, dump them on the drive, and delete the bad ones on your computer afterwards.

check out your local COmpusa clearance sale...I found a Flashtrax 40 gig for $150 before a $100 MIR recently. Don't know if the rebate is good, but saw that the price at my store was down to $130. It plays DIVX, has a usb port and a CF slot.
