Photographers: Recommend a book on studio lighting

Just want to get into the basics of lighting, how to properly set up an indoor studio shoot, etc. I'm looking for beginner info. Thanks.
 

Light Science And Magic is a great book, but my personal favorite since 1993 is The Photographer's Studio Manual by Michael Freeman.

Is that good for beginners, or do I have to know some basics going in?

LS&M is a good book for understanding lighting for beginner/student.

TPSM is more appropriate for people that know a bit about lighting, and is a good supplement that help with natural/studio lighting setups, lighting equipments, using light, portraits, still life, and sets techniques. It is an old book that have a few irrelevant subjects & equipments that isn't relevant to most modern photographers, however the controlling lights, reflections & studio setup portion of the book is invaluable.

Get this one. This book is considered a must have for any portrait photographers. Every pro i've talked to, mentions this book.

The MLG for PP book maybe good for an amateur portrait photographer, but IMHO, a serious photographer should look some where else because it is gimmicky and offer very little substance.

Matter of fact, it went to my brother in-law after he saw I threw it in the recycling bin (It was a gift and I kept it on my book shelf for 3-4 years before I need the room for more interesting books).

Maybe you missed in his original post where he said he's looking for beginner stuff. That's why MLG is an important book to have...it's basic. basic is good for a beginner.
