I just bought a sony camera with a 58mm filter thread.. i currently have 2 IR filters that are 37mm which I would like to use on my camera. i do NOT want to purchase new filters..

i'm looking for somewhere that has either 58mm->37mm, or 2 rings that will combine into this.. bh wants like 15 bucks plus like another 7 or 8 for shipping, then their web site broke when i tried to order so screw them, does anyone know any other places that would have something like this?

tia..

you need step down rings...adorama, and most camera places will carry them.

I don't see a 58 to 37 at bh (I do see a step up 37 to 58 however), so I assume you picked two that got you to 37mm.

but 58 to 37 is a pretty big drop, I'd think you'd get a lot of vignetting (fuzzy edges), but I guess you'll crop that anyways.

so maybe a 58 to 46 and a 46 to 37 would be good.

You will want to step down, having such a large drop will give you grainy images.

what the hell is wrong with these places..

ww thanks for the tip, they have the 2 rings also.. but they want even more for shipping, $8.35 to ship 2 lousy rings? christ.. i guess ill keep it bookmarked and keep looking.. gotta find somewhere that wont rape me on this.

also im aware of the vignetting but it beats paying another 100+ for the 2 IR filters

Why don't you try to find some used IR filters? If you are concerned about quality, and you are willing to put it on the line to save money; you should at least try out all your options first..

You could just ebay the 58 and get a 37...using a stepup that and a filter that big could give you vignetting issues and contribute to lens flare.

step down ring would do it, but 3 pieces of tape would produce much better image.

IMHO, they don't make step-down rings. You run the risk of cutting off the image if you step down that far.

Oh, they make step down rings but i dont see why in god's name you'd want to step down from 58 to 37. That would be ludicrous and would give you nearly unusuable images at anything other than full zoom.
