Thinking about building a dual-core system to help speed up the work on my NEF's (Nikon D70).

On my laptop (1.6ghz Pentium-M, 768mb, 100gb 7200rpm), even browsing the NEF's in Explorer (Thumbnail view), takes a while... Each thumbnail takes 4-5 seconds to load, if not longer, so browsing through large collections following a trip can be tedious.

Anyone here have a dual-core system and can comment on the speed of doing such tasks? (Browsing images in explorer, CS2, etc..)

Get a 15K rpm scsi drive and more ram. Do you monitor cpu usage when doing this?

Edit: looking now I see you have a laptop!

Look into getting Capture One. It makes processing my RAW files a breeze. I do weddings and so I process hundreds of images after each wedding.
