Not sure I wanted to create two threads for this, but if I should, I can edit this.

After working off an XPS 15 for the past 5 years, it's time for another desktop build for creative work.

Here we go:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

I use my pc for Photo Editing (Lightroom and PS), video editing (Premiere Pro), graphic design (Illustrator) as well as general office and productivity uses (I'm a teacher and also serve as a secretary for a club I'm in so I manage a lot of documents for them as well as documentation for minutes, budget info, etc.).

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$1500-$1700 for the PC,

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

U.S.

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

N/A

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

I have a full size Lian Li case, 24" Asus IPS monitor, two external hard drives, wireless mouse, keyboard, various USB hubs, etc.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Default

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?

1920 x 1200 is the Native IPS Resolution.

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Within the next month ideally.

Would you be open to getting the keyboard fixed on the Dell XPS and using the savings on the laptop for a better desktop?

I don't have any experience with video editing but it seems like having lots of CPU cores, plenty of RAM and an nVidia GPU might be the consensus unless you happen to use a specific codec that works better on an AMD GPU. So I put this together for you.

I assumed that you would use your existing Lian Li case and that your external drives would store your files after you work on them from the main internal drive. I opted for 64GB of RAM and a fast Gen4 2TB NVME drive. The 4070 Super just came out this week so there's not much on which specific card is best yet. I just chose one of the less expensive ones. I also chose an AMD CPU, but an Intel one could be swapped in for roughly the same price instead.

Hopefully others can chime in about video editing and if my build hit the mark or not.
