Asking for a friend as I really haven't done any significant image sorting myself.

Long story short, dude comes from Macs, now has a PC. Has inadvertently made a bunch of duplicates (guessing drag and drop copies), and has tons of vacation photos. You guys have any recommendations for software (preferably free of course) that can do batch or auto sorting by file properties or exif data?
 
use duplicate cleaner to find exact file matches then something like dupdetector or photosort after. it's what i do. duplicate cleaner has image matching in as well but i prefer the others for that
 
google picasa is cool. discontinued but it still works great. have to turn off face recognition manually though fyi
