Greetings,
I am looking for suggestions for a new monitor. My current monitor, a
Samsung 971P attached to a PC with Win XP, began to flicker last week
and this weekend went black. After checking cable, video card, etc it
looks like the monitor has died and I need a replacement.
My main use for this monitor is photo editing using Photoshop and Lightroom. I do most of the printing for my wife and I on a HP9180 and
profile both the monitor and the printer using a Spyder3. We have been
able to get good reproduction of what we saw on the screen to print the
way we saw it on the Samsung monitor.
I have looked at the suggestions in the first part of the thread and have looked over the recommendations. While I can spend the price of the smaller NEC models recommended if I have to, it would be nice if we
could get something in the $400-500 price range.
I would like to have a monitor with at least a 12 inch (300mm) vertical
height. This gives me the room I like to have to look at our pictures.
I have been happy with the 4:3 ratio but would be willing to go to a
wider monitor as long as I have the vertical height.
While this is not a critical application like for commercial pre-press, I do want accurate color representation. I usually edit in ProPhoto RGB or Adobe RGB color spaces. For certain types of pictures will also edit in Lab (this does get me in trouble occasionally as the printer can not handle the Lab color range - that's how I learn what not to do). We also shoot in infrared and so good gray scale reproduction is also important.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
knapph
