Hi all, my sister has two speakers that have 6.3mm jack sockets, and two long wires with 6.5mm jack plugs at each end which she currently plugs in to a CD player.
I've got her a new audio player (modded games console) which outputs audio via left and right RCA phono plugs. Obviously, what I want to do is connect these to her two speakers, and as the phono plug's cable is very short I need to connect the phono plugs to the two jack cables running to the speakers.
And that's where my proble lies. First up I dont have access to the things, so I've no idea how they handle left and right audio at the moment (would both output left + right? one left one right? would both jack cables be stereo plugs but carrying only left and only right?).
My first idea was to jst get a phono socket to 6.3mm jack socket coupler but they don't seem to exist. I can get a phono socket to jack plug, and then a jack coupler, but the only ones I can find are either mono (all left audio only) or take both phonos and feed them to a single jack, which isn't so good as obviously I need to connect it to two seperate cables.
The best I can think of then is:
phono left-----\ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . /--jack cable 1
. . . . . . . . . . . \ jack plug --- jack coupler --- plug of jack Y splitter /
phono right ---/. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . \---jack cable 2
anyone got a better idea than that? it's a lot of splitting going on 🙁 don't really have time to make anything though so can't be anything custom, just something i can pick up on ebay or maplins in the uk.
thanks.
EDIT: hang on... all the regular 6.3mm jack speaker cables i see are mono to mono... wtf?... presumably they all connect to a single source that only outputs left *or* right audio to the same ring of the jack (the very end, left audio in a stereo connection)? in which case.... right phono to jack mono to jack coupler, left phono to jack mono to jack coupler? i better ring my sister...
