My critter is actually calling ME to join a teleconference. Got a message last week saying "I'll call back on august 24th at 6:00 pm". John Yarmouth (D-KY). He was only going to do telecalls but after much pressure I think he's actually doing one or two in person.

I don't know how they are going to handle questions or concerns.

-edit-
Reps were actually instructed to use phone instead of in person by Pelosi.

Maybe they want to be able to discuss issues instead of have the town hall disrupted by shouting morons?

Yes, I realize the Dems had their own squads of shouting morons during the Bush years.

Mine (Heath Shuler) so far refuses to have anything to do with any kind of townhall meeting.

Probably a good idea, everyone's still mad at him for voting for cap-n-trade.

Liberals protesting the murder of thousands of middle easterners vs. lunatics protesting providing people with health care: morally equivalent according to centrists

By "discuss" do you mean screen out those they don't want to hear from?

Like Bush's loyalty oaths?

No, by "discuss" I mean exchange words with some measure of civility instead of letting the slack-jawed cretins shout down all attempts to do so.

I like him already. Who?

-edit-

And if your congress critter is only doing phone-ins, call them and tell them you want in person. They do occasionally listen to us if there is a public push. As said mine changed his tune. Remember who they work for - you.

Rep. Herger, He also has a choice of having it in Oroville or Paradise, but instead is having it in Chico, the University town where he's sure to have the most opposition.

Phone-in "town hall" ? That's gotta be one of the most stupid things ever. Tell your rep you want to see them in person at a town hall, not hear them on the phone, unless they want you to also phone in your vote come election time.

By civility do you mean call the people that don't agree with you Nazi's?

Harry Reid is doing the same thing here in Nevada.

This is change.

Yeah. He's up for re-election next year, and so far is not polling too well. Couple of good Rep. candidates running against him and last I heard a Dem as well.

There are a few good quotes about gov being in fear of their people IIRC.

The best thing would be to scrap them altogether. That way no one has to hear any propaganda at all.

Yeah seriously - why should a critter have to actually listen to the voters... That's so 19th century...

if the voters showed they gave a shit about the actual bill or issues, fine. they don't, it's a partisan whackjob crowd 99% of the time talking about watering the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants, etc. It's grandstanding for the cameras. Nothing productive is going on at these meetings from either side. The dems have changed messages 6 times and the reps are trying to scare the fuck out of everyone.

there is no "actual bill" but there is the issue. You may not like how some express their views because they are too broad(founding fathers and all that) but it doesn't change anything. Why shouldn't the critters have to listen - even if it is "grandstanding" - hell the critters do it all the time and expect us to listen to their crap.
