Phoneline NIC: Gone Wacko?

Hello, I recently bought a new netgear phoneline network card and a phoneline bridge to connect to my ethernet lan and share my cable connection to a computer downstairs and far from my LAN, I am able to connect to the internet and do everything like it was connected right into the LAN with regular rj45, it had been working great for about four days until yesterday, when all my phones suddenly went dead, like one was off of the hook. So i checked out the card, and when I plug the card from the computer into the wall phone jack, it cuts off the regular phone line! it had not done this when I first got the card, i even took the card out of the computer, plugged into the wall, and it still knocks the phoneline dead!, however, the internet connection still works perfectly, is this just a whacked NIC card or what? also the system was totally off all weekend, and i was getting phone calls fine on Saturday, then sunday bam, dead lines because of this card....
