Phone tones, us vs uk

I'm assuming phone tones are the same ? ie us equipment can be used in uk ? ie phones, modems, fax ?

j/k...I don't think they are supposed to work in the UK, phones and phone stuff, that is...unless my voltages stuff only applies to places like China, Germany, Italy and the like, where the voltages for stuff is not the same as the US of A...
