Phone Scam?

This is the 2nd time in about a week this happened. I received a call from a "credit verification bureau". The man on the phone just said "you were approved for the Mastercard". As I have not applied for any credit card in a while, I asked him "what Mastercard?" He said "the Plainum card". I then told him I have no idea what he's talking about. He asked me if my name was (he said my name), and I said no, just because I didn't want to confirm any of his information. Then I asked him what bank he's from and he again asked me to confirm my name. I said I'm not answering any questions until he tells me what bank he's from, and he hung up. I heard a lot of ruckus in the background - it seemed other calls of a similar nature were being made, but this could have been a fake recording. Anyone know what's going on???

Would have to call yoru phone company, tell them you got a phone scam and you want to report it to the cops/FCC/wherever. See if they can look it up. If they say no, get a supervisor because they probably have some way of doing it

Its a scam.
Its a two call thing. The first time they verify your information. Then in a couple of days they call you and said you won something. And they go here is all of your information but we just need a credit card to ship the item out to you.

You've gotten such a call before?

sounds like a regular telemarketing call to me

I used to hawk american express credit cards.. of course the people making the calls dont work for the bank, they work for telemarketing firms who are paid to call for the cc company

and he kept going on about the name because we'd get in deep sh!t if we discussed anything about anything with anyone other than the person who the call was intended for. Some guys keep their credit cards secret from their wives for example and use it to buy porn/hookers/etc 😉

and of course you didnt ask to get the call, you know how many cc applications I get in the mail every day I didn't ask for? and how many of the same phone calls as this I got before giving up a land line altogether

tell them you can talk then ask them for their home phone number,,,when they say no say why i guess they dont like people calling you at home

you-now you know how i feel, slam phone
