I am opening a business in a town and need to have a local phone number for that town but there is no office at this location. I would like to have that local number setup and foward it to another location in a different area code, etc.

At the fowarded location, I would like to have something like a caller id box of sorts be able to tell me if the call has been fowarded or not.

The local number at the remote location could be either a cell or landline, whichever will work better. Cost is really not a concern here. Is this possible or am I going about this wrong? I sent the phone company an email asking them too.

That's an interesting thought johngute. So could I setup the service and use it at a different location?

Vonage would be one way to take care of the issue.

I remember that at the last place I worked, we had 'OX' (Out of eXchange?) lines in one building, that was in a different area code than the main offices... Basically, the office was in the Carroll exchange (740-756-xxxx), whereas we needed it to be in a Columbus (614-83x-xxxx) exchange. I don't know what they did to make it work... but our Telco did something, and suddenly we had lines that were assigned numbers that belonged to a foreign exchange, and all was well.
