Phone is always on silent. But, I want a phone call from wife to always come through.

I do not like getting interrupted by the phone.
I am not even on vibrate. I'm on SILENT.
All notifications are off.

However, if there is an emergency, I want a few selected contacts
to override the silent setting, and make the ringer sound aloud.

Is this possible? Android 7. Moto X Pure.

For Android 9,

Click the gear for Settings
Choose Sound
Choose "Do not Disturb"

Set Mode = "Priority Only"

Enable "Use Do Not Disturb"

Choose "Select priorities"

"Calls from" = Favorites
(Also, go Favorite your chosen Contacts like wife and mom)

Enable "Repeated calls" in case someone is trying to contact me urgently.

"Messages from" = Favorites.

After set up,
yu pull down the main menu,
Scroll to "Do Not Disturb", and turn it on or off.

This was the missing step.
I had to put the phone into "priority only" mode on the main pull down screen.
