Phone contract up-What to do?

Rumor has it they want you under 100MB a day and 2GB a month. I've read where people don't enter the proxy under the APN settings and they have exceeded the "limits" and have had no issues. YMMV.

You can't bring your existing phone to Virgin Mobile, you have to buy a new one. Best VM phone right now is the Evo V (same as the Evo 3D) for $300. Virgin Mobile does not let you bring your own device.

I didn't want to say anything earlier because I was at work because I work for at&t in the land-line division but I wouldn't get an at&t cell phone because of the bs they pull.

I's go with T-Mobile, The got an infusion of $4b from the failed merger with at&t.

WTF? I was just on the ST website this morning checking out their phones and plans. They state "Unlimited talk, text, data". I probably won't use 100MB a day, PROBABLY, but wtf is that crap? I even read the fine print!

EDIT: I'm lookin at the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim. Sucks buying a new phone for $180 when I already have a Droid 2 that I love, but in the end it'll be WAY cheaper than having that Droid 2 on fucking money grabbing Verizon. Also, apparently the Galaxy Proclaim uses Verizon's network so the coverage will be good.

Is your Droid 2 a CDMA (Verizon) device? If so, you could take that over to Page Plus on their $55 ulimited talk/text/2 gig plan. I don't think their daily rates are as prohibitive as straight talk. Page Plus is a Verizon virtual carrier.

Buy a new, unlocked phone outright or keep the old one and go contract free. I wish I had done that since I'm stuck with Fido's expensive service for two more years. If you don't like the iPhone, you could pickup a Galaxy S II. They're not cheap but still a lot less than the $800 they want for unlocked smartphones these days.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how anyone can afford these new smartphone plans. What's Verizon's minimum now, $90/mo for one phone? After fees and tax probably over $100. That's ridiculous.

Find a pre-paid service. Take your iPhone to StraightTalk and at least save yourself some money and not have a contract over your head.

I don't experience a lot of AT&T problems... It seems Verizon and AT&T are pretty comparable. The only downside is that Verzion's phones only work on Verizon. (From what I know)

AT&T is cheap for me on iPhone plan. ($25/month for data + $10 extra line) I'd get a family plan... I don't know why a lot of people don't do this. It kills the cost of mobile phone plans by so much if you don't talk a lot. I'll be on the family plan for as long as humanly possible.

The new iphone will prob run $700 on its own, which is a tough pill to swallow, but over the course of a year or so, I will prob break even, then after 2 years I will have saved a few hundred bucks.

Or go with a prepaid plan, buy a used flip phone off ebay, and you'll be better than "break even."

I'm a cheap bastard, use a 5 year old flip phone, and pay around $50/year on my cell phone. Phone usage is a very low priority with us.

Main reason for iphone is that I put all my music on it. It serves as my iPod, if you will. Sure I could sell it and get a cheap android and then buy a regular iPod but I like having my phone and music player all in one.

If you get an Android phone, you can add a 32G memory card, and load all your music on it. Did that on my Samsung Intercept, it works great.

Yeah Android is also better cuz you can just copy & paste the music. With apple stuff you need to "sync" through iTunes and thats more of a hassle.
