I am not sure if this is the right forum, so if not, please feel free to move. Our 5-year promotional package for a landline and 12 Mbps internet for $60 per month through Centurylink is coming to an end (with taxes, fees, etc., our total bill per month was about $100). Afterwards, it will jump at least another $25 per month. After talking with the douche nut bags at customer no service, customer loyalty/retention, and various supervisors, it is clear as to why they are one of the worst rated companies in the world. So, we are considering Comcast / Xfinity, another absolutely horrid and hated company, to go with their 60 Mbps and VOIP phone for $50 per month with a 2-year contract. What say you Anandtechians? Do any of you have this setup and if so, do you like it? How is it for reliability? Are there other options to consider?

Your $60 monthly bill had $40 worth of additional fees and taxes every month?

I don't have Comcast's voice service, but my overall experience with the company has been positive. The only caveat to that is price. I have 55 Mbps service with them now for $49.99 a month (no additional taxes or fees here for only internet service) and it's the best deal I've had from them in years. I've paid as much as $85/month for similar speeds in the past.

Make sure you buy your own voice modem to save something like $11/month. It should more than pay for itself in two years.

Yeah, unbelievable isn't it that they charge $40 per month for taxes, fees, franchise, what have you. Yes, if we go with Comcast, we will use our own modem and router.

Currently with Centurylink, no other options. 20G pair bonded DSL plus phone 85/mo. Cell service in the house is spotty.

Same exact boat here, down to the timing. :D

Been looking at moving to cell for everything but it looks like it would cost more.

We have Spectrum here (Former Time Warner) here, I just have internet, 200mbps, their slowest speed. I ran out of promotion and pay close to $65 a month. I serves all my needs, I subscribe/unsubscribe Sling and I go though the year, depending on sport seasons, Netflix for all my TV show and movie needs. I always had home phone, not used much, about 8 years or so back switch to Google Voice/Obihai. I am satisfied with the price point...

I know the name of the room/sub-forum has changed, but I still prefer ATOTers...

Sounds like a scam you just accepted. You have been their bitch for half a decade.
