Phoenix PD shoots suspect at YMCA

PHOENIX - An armed man has been shot and wounded after allegedly threatening some people inside a Phoenix YMCA and then pointing a gun at police officers.

Police were called to the scene after the man, who was locked out of his room, threatened a YMCA staffer with a gun.

"While they were on the elevator ride up to the seventh floor, the suspect in this case showed a gun on his hip and began to threaten the resident coordinator and threatened to kill him," said Phoenix police spokesman Trent Crump, adding that the staffer was able to get away and put the facility on lock down, including the elevators.

When officers arrived, the man allegedly threatened them with the gun and, after a fight, an officer shot and wounded the man.

Phoenix police said the man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries after Monday afternoon's shooting.

Police are not sure why them man was so angry, but drugs were found in his possession.

The name and age of the man wasn't immediately released.

Police said the handgun the man allegedly was brandishing has been recovered from the scene.

Police said no officers or people inside the YMCA were injured.

Yeah, don't wave a gun at the armed police officers, mmk?

There's going to be an investigation, standard procedure when there's an officer involved in a shooting. Doesn't look like any controversy here though, nut job, possibly under the influence, threatened a YMCA staffer with a weapon, then proceeded to threaten the police.
