So, I saw an article on Yahoo that I found...interesting.

Seems to be the same magnetic bracelet snake oil sold under a different name. Personally, I am a bit conflicted when it comes to the placebo effect. On the one hand, yes it is ridiculous, but is it necessarily that bad (if it actually does make you happier)? I'm trying to think of something that gives me the placebo effect, but can't really. I'm sure there is one.

I can think of a sort of placebo effect. It has to do with the MLM businesses, where they convince each of the people that it is their own unique personal business. It probably doesn't actually fit placebo, but the mindset is similar from what I've seen (slightly different due to the buyer versus seller difference). Some people I'm sure feel the same way about religion, and many other things. Really that's getting into a very shady area. Brand names are another somewhat similar thing, although the issue there is that with many brands, the quality is there, but the mentality of the people who buy it seems to push it to another level. Things get very convoluted very quickly. I guess in the end it boils down to you pick your poison.

The phiten necklace!

</Stephen Colbert>

All that matters is that in a superstitious sport like baseball, where players don't wash batting helmets during hitting streaks and have elaborate pre-pitch routines involving clapping and batting glove adjustment, the Phiten necklaces only need to make the players think they work.
That's one of the (few) amusing things about watching baseball is seeing all the bizarre rituals that some of the players go through.
"Clearly, it's not my skill at the game which determines performance. It's the number of times I slap the base of the bat, and the accuracy of the frequency at which I do it."
Then there's the players who kiss and point at the sky (Rollins, lookin' at you) - yes, God clearly favors you over the other team.

Start sacrificing chickens next.
Silly people.

From Wikipedia:
But the company claims that their processing of titanium into a water-soluble form (aqua-titanium), is what "improves blood circulation, relieves tension or stiffness of the muscles, and generally relaxes your body."
So....it gets the titanium into the bloodstream, supposedly?
Titanium.com sez:
SOLUBILITY IN WATER: Insoluble
Damn laws of physics.

Their explanation for how Phiten affects the body is that "when you're tired or stressed, the body's positive and negative ions are not balanced, therefore causing tension or aches. However, the aqua-titanium processed necklace, bracelet, and even tape will help to stabilize those ions and restore the flow of energy."
Right, ion imbalance.
Needs more inverse quantum resonance mitigation.
