Got a hilariously bad attempt to phish my credit card numbers today. I answered the phone and a computer generated voice comes on saying that my credit card is locked and that I need to provide them information to unlock it.

I just hung up, but I was surprised about how many people I know had no idea this type of thing happens.

Anyone ever had a random attempt to steal their information?

Yep. As I mentioned in the M$ fraud/hack thread I run a netbook connected to a caller ID dial up capable modem and run a software called Phone Tray and intercept the crap.

I get a fake one from Paypal about once a week. I forward the fake one to the real paypal company, but I don't think it does any good. I would think that they would want to stop this.

A more reasonable endeavor than that would be to exterminate roaches from Earth.

Spammers or phishers are just as persistent and resilient, but it's currently illegal in most places to hire a bounty hunter to deal with them properly.

:hmm: Maybe I should start an anti-spam Kickstarter fund anyway.
