The First Law of Philosophy: For every philosopher, there exists an equal and opposite philosopher.

The Second Law of Philosophy: They're both wrong.

So, you're saying your personal philosophy is that philosophy sucks?

No. I'm merely expressing my distaste towards philosophy. I'm taking a Phil. class at the uni, and I'm slowly dying inside every minute when I sit in class.

Geez, I loved philosophy. If I had no aspirations of ever having a job, I'd take more of it. I had two of them at a community college; they counted toward my humanities and social sciences requirements for my current degree at a university.
It was also funny because we had a Jesus-freak from the Bible Belt. Any time she'd try to argue anything, it was always something about Jesus, or a Bible quote.
She dropped the class after less than 2 weeks.

My most painfully useless courses, and some of the biggest wastes of money in my life:
- Theater
- Jazz History

Jazz History was totally worth the money, because it helped me better understand a few jokes in MST3K. That's really all it did though.

Theater..........Theater taught me how to kill off any lingering sense of dignity I may have ever had.

You just need a better professor. Mine taught the class by telling you how each philosopher was full of shit.

Of course, you also pick up the good parts of each philosophy along the way.

I personally really like elements of Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology. However, just elements. All three subjects have egotistical maniacs throughout history, but also have some of the greatest minds and concepts/theories.

Pretty much every philosophical discussion I've ever had has ended up turning into "but how do we know the world around us is real?"

So yeah I agree. Philosophy is mostly bullshit.

So because it became "how do we know the world around us is real?" it is bullshit?

It's bullshit to question things that science cannot touch (the abstract)? Science is great, but unforutnately we cannot *prove* one way or another that we are real and not just a character in somebodies dream. Can you prove to me you are real and not "made up"? Philosophy is great because you cannot be wrong, as long as you can backup your beliefs with logic.

Do you think religion is bullshit as well?

Philosophy is the best waste of time money can buy. I know what I know if you know what I mean.

I actually learned a lot of interesting theatre terms that I have long since forgotten from theatre 101. Oh and you better call it "theatre" bitch!1!

I still remember the gist of this one quote from Weber from an Intro to Sociology course that I took (7pm, ew): "We need the poor... someone has to clean the streets." :p

I did in my "Issues in Philosophy" course. But we didn't devolve the discussion into that, we discussed how that topic came up in philosophical history and the different arguments of how people tried to prove that we're real and how others made arguments against said arguments. If you like logical thinking, philosophy can be fun.
