I was cleaning out my garage last weekend and came across my final papers from my college philosophy class. I read through them and concluded that a, I was once a pretty decent writer and thinker, and b, my critical thinking skills have atrophied since graduating. Even before then, probably.

Anyway, I remember liking Emmanuel Kant, but beyond that I don't remember much. Maybe a Sir Isaac something or other.

Given my rusty chops, I'm looking for a few books to get my feet wet again. Definitely nothing too technical as I wouldn't be able to handle it.

I probably need to narrow it down to a few subjects, but for now I'll just ask for some favorite authors and some good books to get back into philosophy in general.

Art of War - Sun Tzu
The Prince - Niccolò Machiavelli
On War - Carl Philipp Gottlieb von Clausewitz
The Ninety-Five Theses - Martin Luther
Anything by Samuel Clemens
A few of my favorites.

It's your mind. Spend an afternoon in a library or a bookstore in the philosophy section or whatever, and see what appeals to you.

A few of my favorites.

Especially Machiavelli

"The Social Contract" by Rousseau (my FAVORITE!)
John Locke
Hobbes (good for contrasting with Rousseau & Locke)
