Phillips Sound Card gives SB a run - It's about time.

I'm pretty impressed to

No Win2k though 🙁

If the Win2k support is up by the time it's released it very well may be my next sound card.

that looks to be the next big card.. to replace aureal: Philips! go Philips!

though I'd like to see a few more reviews on it before thinking of buying it..

at least it didn't crash or anything (it's still BETA! that's a good sign!).

The only problem is I hear nothing of support for A3D, EAX etc. An overall great card for a great price. I just want to play games with that bad boy though.

I don't see why you all complain about SB Live! soundcards! I mean, I have an SB Live! Mp3+, and I can't complain: great drivers and features, works with everything, and I know Creative will be around for a while. I do think they could innovate a little more rapidly, but then again, how much more do you want a soundcard to do? I wouldn't mind hardware Dolby Digital/DTS decoding and A3D support, but how much is there beyond that? Sounds are already realistic and they come from different directions. Wavetracing is great technology, and I'm Creative will use it at some point.

GTaudiophile, the SBLIVE series cards are a step BACKWARDS to what we have currently (Vortex 2 cards, with nearly perfect A3D 3.0 implimentation), simply becuase gaming was beginning to embrace A3D, which means games would be designed with 3D Audio in mind.

not only that, but A3D 3.0 was capable of doing Dolby Digital in games, ie, 5 discrete channels being sent out, either through digital out, or through 6 audio channels.

now a days, we STILL only have games supporting at best A3D 2.0, and being output through 4 speakers (which is pretty good, only with a good API like A3D 2.0).

not only would games have output audio using a well embraced audio compression scheme, but Aureal's next card was going to do Dolby digital decoding in Hardware, and MP3 encoding/decoding in hardware as well.

AND you wouldn't have had a hit in games with their next card with A3D 2.0 enabled as well.

superior audio, no framerate hit, what more could u ask?

I could ask that Aureal be allowed to continue, but that isn't going to happen, becuase of Creative. I refuse to buy their products, because they're a step BACKWARDS to what I currently have, and they bankrupted a VERY PROMISING product.

holy cow this card looks awesome. I am so glad that I have a $200 rebate on ANY philips product (thanks to my CDD2000 being a piece of sheite)

A3D is dead. Fact facts, Soccerman. 😉 Plus a well-coded EAX 2.0 game is nearly indistinguishable from an A3D 2.0 game equally well-coded....it only lacks convincing positional sounds above and below you.

Phillips is "up and coming". Good monitors and now a sound card. Can't wait until Guillemet/Herc come out with their 5.1 card...heard "soon".

It's great that their is some compition agianst Creative Labs but that Phillips card is still based on that sweet AC97 codec that we all know sounds awesome! :|
