My DirecTIVO unit occasionally loses color ie. what I see on the TV is all B&W including the menus. This has happened a couple of times while I was watching it but today I had to reset the unit to get the color back. It is recording fine, this only happens on the output. The output to my TV is through an S Video cable combined with left and right audio cables. I plan on returning it after I dump the recordings I want to save onto my computer but was curious if anyone else has seen this problem.

Make sure the cable between your Tivo and your TV is all the way in on both. The only time I have seen B&W output is when my connection wasn't snug.

How weird...the exact same thing was happening to me today. I fixed it the same way you did - restarted it. I am also running over the SVIDEO cable, and I'm pretty sure it won't do it over composite. Usually, it only happens randomly throughout a day or so, then doesn't do it again for a month or so. I have no clue what it is. What kind of TV do you have?

Toshiba CF32E50 32" set. I have had a Sony DirecTV SAT-A2 hooked up to it for years until I got this new unit. I used the existing wiring and added a RG6 line in for the 2nd tuner on the TIVO box.

Try a new Svideo cable, the one you have is probably bad. Svideo splits the signal into Luma and Chroma over separate wires, so you've probably got a bad connection for the Chroma signal.

Yep, same here. Try a new SVideo cable as well.

Is it possible the fault is in the unit's SVideo connector? The reason I ask is because I now have the Sony hooked back up using the identical setup and the problem does not occur. I am close to the end of the 30 day return period for BB so I am probably going to exchange it just to be on the safe side.

Could quite possibly be a bad connector. I'd exchange it as well just to be on the safe side.
