I'm planning on buying a new sound card, and I've narrowed it down to the Philips SE or Turtle Beach SC. Now I'm just looking for opinions as of which one is better in general, like quality, features, drivers, what comes in the box, etc...

Also, what does "white box" mean?

White box is like OEM,no fancy retail box or extras, deciding between the two sound cards is a tough call,I prefer the Philips AE/SE on sound which has decent drivers however the Santa Cruz has excellent drivers,to be honest you can`t really go wrong with either model.

I was in the same boat you are in today, about a month and a half ago.
But I got a TBSC cos I didnt want to wait so long, and a friend of mine waited and got the Philips, both of them have good drivers. Philips has a nice support, and the TBSC I installed the drivers from CD that came, didnt hv to download drivers for Win XP.
They sound pretty good to me, the difference on them are the features, and price. I think on TBSC you got more features, but you pay for those extra features, it costs more than the Philips.
I agree with Mem, cant go wrong with either model.

;) I've heard a lot more about Philips ACOUSTIC Edge which is reportedly very good, it's nicest feature is it's ability to produce 4point DIRECTIONAL surround sound from a stereo source which is meant to be amazing with any games you play. TBSC is very popular, other options are Fortissimo II and (dare I say it) SB Live (because it's cheap) and Audigy (because it is the most feature rich and nicest sounding card). All these cards are excellent and there isn't a 'bad buy' so make your choice and be happy.

PS. I really hate Creative, but that doesn't mean their cards are crap and that I won't point others in their direction.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've decided to go with the PSE because I found a kickass deal for it. Thanks again!
