Philips CD-RW model PCRW804K firmware

Anyone know where I can find the firmware update for the Philips CD-RW model PCRW804K? I think it's version 2.5. Thanks.

I would start at the philips.com website . . . and maybe here:

Philips

That is the 800 series, right? OOK . . . look here also:

Firmware

are you having problems with the drive..if not do not fix something that is not broken..if firmware update fails you can have a worthless drive or you can lose performance features you desire..just beware and make sure it fixes a problem...also try to determine if you can back flash if your not happy

2.5 is the new BIOS? I don't have that one.

corky-g - I've tried following your links but they are broken or give a server misconfiguration error - I'm trying to find the 2.5 BIOS now.

BTW - anyone else think the Philips web site is useless?

Mitzi . . . the problem is that no matter where you drill to . . . the URL doesn'tchange. By going to CD ROM on the left, then slecting "P", you get this under Phillips:

Philips - CD-ROM and Disk Drive Drivers
Support Phone - (800)-326-6586
Support Email - Technical Support Request
Drivers - http://www2.ce-europe.philips.com/do?session=new&vsid=1215&jsp=index&ccode=CE_Global
Linux Drivers (Linux Hardware Database) -
http://lhd.datapower.com/db/searchproduct.cgi?manufname=philips

But . . . having said that . . . it is a rather stupid web site. 🙂

Philips web site is awful. Their tech support is just as bad. And their guarantee and repair shop is worthless.

I happen to have an 804k, and I have been unable to use it for months. The caddy will not stay in the drive. You close it, and it opens.

After days of hassle, I finally get to a tech, who says I have to do the following:

1. Get a copy of the original reciept from the store you bought it from
(Why?)
2. Fax it, your e-mail address, your mailing address, and you shoe size to some machine in the 901 area code.

Well, finally I got a reciept from my dealer, sent off the fax, and got nothing but a blank e-mail in response, from a place I could not e-mail back to.

I them get on the Philips web site, write out a complaint, and get an e-mail message back with a phone number to call.

I call the number, and talk with some guy who says at the end of the conversation: "...someone just didn't send your information out. I'll send it out tomorrow, you should get it in a couple of days." That was last week. No e-mail, no slowmail, no UPS label, nothing.

The drive was a nice drive, but if you can't get warranty work, then why spend the $$$ for it. Stay away from Philips.

By the way, anyone know how to fix the drive?

Sincerely,

John

corky-g: Thats the original link you gave! The Philips links provided on it don't work.

TitleistProV1: Sounds like you've been royally screwed there - theres nothing worse than being given the run around - I've had it the last few weeks with the IBM Hard drive RMA department (who suck by the way!). Hope you get you problem sorted soon.

Welcome to the Forum BTW 🙂
