I'm planning on building a new system with a Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1. I would like to hook it up to my Dolby Digital Reciever. Right now, I'm using an X-Gamer 5.1 with daughter card. It is hooked up via Digital Coaxial from the reciever to Daughter card. My question is how would I do the same with the Acoustic Edge 5.1.

Does the Acoustic Edge 5.1 come with Digital Coaxial outs so I just need to pop in the Digital Coaxial and I'm ready to hear 5.1 Digital Sounds? (After selecting Digital outputs from Play Control)

Thanks

You'd do it via the S/PDIF output. I would check out the Philips website to find out for you, but currently the philips website is excruciatingly slow, so go check it out yerself :)
It would probably be either a digital coaxial plug, an optical(TOSLink) plug or a 18" minijack(like the Santa Cruz does for its digital out)

HI,
I have not had a chance to play around much with my AE but it comes with one line out cable with 3 cables coming out of it C/LFE,REAR & FRONT. IT also has a S/PDIF CABLE with an spdif out and spdif in that plugs into its own din...as well as an anolog cd cable. On the card is also an digital cd connection (inside) aux (inside) TAD (inside) and an line in and mic in external. I picked mine up last week for $75 after tax - $20 rebate = $55....Oh yeh, at Best buy! Rebate on slip says good till dec 31 2001

I hope this helps I am still learing to use it..

wierd. i just got an AE 5.1 and have it hooked up to my digital reciever which supports Digital Coaxial and in a 5.1 setup. How did you get it working? Whenever I choose DVD AC3/DTS Passthough all my sound stops working. I can only choose front left and right chanels / rear / center and low freq if i want sounds. before i had an x-gamer with the same setup and it was working fine. i've tried all 3 drivers (the ones on the cd, 1.57, and 1.61 beta), all do the samething (though the one on the cd didn't have a dvd ac3 passthough option).

Could someone please shead some light on this.

update 1
Just got off the phone w/ a Philips' "tech" and he said that it'll only work in playback or something like that and if i wanted to use all 6 channels (5.1) i'd have to set it up via analog. The analog Line Out cable has 3 pieces: C/LFE, Rear, Front. How would I hook that up to a reciever? Is there any way to take advantage of 5.1 via digital? The only reason i got s/pdif was to eliminate hissing and now it seems i have to go back to analog. what a waste.

Dunno if it'll be really worth it. Just return this and ago back to X-Gamer 5.1

k. kinda got it working semi properly. just said spdif is my front channels and the rears kick in when listening to music or watching a div file. now, the only thing is that the thing pops (turns on / off) quite frequently when listening to a music cd. anyone else get this problem? (there's also crackeling in the center speakers)

Just got out of a game of Ghost Recon and the gun sounds are horrible. I became invincable and let the terrorists shoot me in the back. The gun fire was still coming from the front speakers and my gun fires were very muffled. Anyone know what's wrong?
