Which one is better? I'm talking about compatibility with media, features (e.g. burnproof, clonecd compatible etc). I have both and I need to choose! Thanks.

I believe the Philips can copy the SDK2 copy protected CD's, but doesn't support burnproof at all. Can't tell you which is better since it really depends on what you wish to do.

Did you get in on the Staples deal by any chance?

of COURSE i got in the staples deal!! man that was one sweet deal, or should I say, two sweet deals 😀

Basically, I want to burn mp3 cd's (not audio), backup my documents, and use something that is compatible with nero5 and discjuggler v2 & v3.

I have a 4x that currently fulfills those needs (mitsumi 4802TE, the bomb ass cdr I got in '98!), but I wouldn't mind getting all that at a higher speed 😀 The laser on cdr's do wear out over time, so I don't know how much longer my mitsumi will hold out.

I've heard some good/bad things about the yamaha, but not much on the philips. anyone with reviews on the philips cdr?

As soon as I got my Philips drive as well🙂😀, I checked the Andy McFadden's CD-R faq and couldn't find any info on this drive. However, under "Which CD recorder should I buy?" there were several models from Philips listed on the 'worth buying' list. So this drive should be high in quality and I'm currently using it under Nero with no problems so far.
