I just jumped on the BB deal on the Philips CDRW. Plugged it on the secondary controller as master and tried to boot on my Asus cusl2 board. Bios set to Auto and it does not show up on post and then I get a blue screen after W2K tries to load. Tells me there's a possible driver problem to try again or uninstall my hardware etc. Tried safe mode same thing.

I can plug my old 48x cdreader on the secondary controller w/o any problem. I've got two of the Philips drives and it's the same on both and I've swapped to a different cable.

Anybody got any ideas? :disgust::frown::confused:

I spent so many hours to make it to work. It does work with WIN2K.

Make sure you installed ASUS motherboard driver correctly.(Check control panel, sys mgr, IDE controller, you should see a VIA?(Intel? driver listed and Primary and Secondary IDE listed. Totally 3 lines)
Good luck.

I checked that and there are three lines, Intel ultra ata controller and a line for primary ultra and secondary ultra ata channel.

The bios will recognize the drive on post if I connect it to the primary slave position but I still get the blue screen.

are you using sp2 or sp3 on w2k?

thanks for your response. After reading through some of the ATA questions in the other forums I decided to try installing the MS ata driver to see if that fixed the problem and it did.:)

I'm not sure why the Intel dirvers don't like the Philips cdrw. I'm not sure if the MS driver supports ATA100 or ATA66. I haven't burned a cd yet but it's working as a reader and would appear to be ok.

Actually I'm on SP1, I remember now, the SP2 patch is huge so I haven't downloaded it.

thanks
