Yep, looks like this progressive scan player will play almost anything thrown at it. Saw this at Ben's and couldn't resist. I may delay building a media center PC if this plays everything claimed. The price is unreal considering that the Lite-On players that would play almost everything were easily $50 or more higher. Will report back to this thread after I am able to check mine out.

Target carries this in-store if you guys are interested. It has all the necessary outputs too. Component, S-Video, and composite video outputs. As well as optical and coaxial digital audio outputs. There's also a region hack for it HERE too. But it doesn't seem permanent. It'll probably show up in the near future though.

It's a fairly new item for Target so they may not have it out.. if you don't see it then tell a sales rep to check their backstock for it with the DPCI number 008-06-0121.

Well, I jumped...and bought the Pioneer VSX-D812 too....Couple that with the CERWIN-VEGA AVS-5.1 that I got from Buy.com pricemistake of the day today for $99, and i think I have a decent system. I'll get another center channel speaker so I can use the 812 as a 6.1 system. For ~$450 after tax, shipping, etc, doesn't seem too bad. We'll see!

MD.

you gotta love it when the Product decscription promotes illegal activity ... lol

DivX digital video technology plays movies downloaded from the Internet at near-DVD quality.

just found that funny

Hah!

I saw this 2 days ago. Ordered one from Bestbuy.com right away. Then figured I needed another so I went on Ebay and bid for another one (@45 plus 15 s/h) but then got outbidded (no surprise).

One day passed. I felt that I wasn't going to wait until it goes out of stock or is no longer carried by Bestbuy so I bought another one. Both are due to be shipped in Late april or early may....basically another week!

Can't wait.

Heh, you guys might want to read through the thread again. It's available at CompUSA, Walmart, and Target B&M as well. $69.99 is the regular retail price on this thing

Don't go all crazy if it's sold out online.

Does anyone have any idea if this thing will play DiVX 5.1.1 encoded with B-frames, GMC, or Qpel? Or does it have to conform to profiles? How does one update the firmware? TIA,

Nate

Check DVDrhelp. People are testing it out with all kinds of files.

I dug through the PDF's on Philips' site about this player, and for any who might be curious it does NOT support DiVX that has been encoded with either GMC (Global Motion Compensation) or Qpel (Quarter Pixel). The documentation said nothing, however, of B frames, leading me to believe that it supports DiVX/Xvid encodes that implement those.
