Philips 30pw8420/37b

Lifer
anyone familiar with this TV? I know funboy42 has one.

I got mine today from the Philips outlet so its a factory renewed unit.

I hit the power button and get a green flashing light for a few seconds then it goes out. Nothing happens on the screen. Called their support and since I just got the TV, they don't have any warranty info on me and its going to take 3-5 business days for them to enter the info and call me back!! wtf!!!!!

Not only was my tv 6 days late for delivery, but it appears it doesn't fvcking work! It also has a few cracks and scrapes on the plastic around the screen. I'm not tooworried abou that since its not like i have people coming over to see it.

Fvcking knew i shouldn't have bought refurbished. I've never done and i've always been wary of it and the 1st time i do it i get fvcked. I'm not mad at you Funboy42. You recommended it and so did several people on that AV forum and didn't have any problems. I'm just really pissed at Philips for taking so damn long to just give me any support.

oh and my wii component cables came today too! grr....

You are not the first to have many issues regarding Philips and refurbs. Sorry to hear of this🙁

Your issues aren't with refurbished products, it's with not buying from a B&M.

If you want fast service, you buy from a B&M. Plain and simple.

oh wait a minute!!!

apparently it didn't have enough power??? wtf? all i had in the outlet was a 5 disc cd player, dvd player and my wii.

now it comes on!!!

You probably have the same line running through multiple rooms. You would need to know about your wiring (and it may possible be on the panel in your breaker box) to tell what is actually on the line.

no sound from my wii with the component cable though...

i get sound from the composite ports from my dvd player

Well the component cable (3 RCA connections) doesn't carry audio, but if you have the analog audio cables hooked up as well (additional 2 RCA connections), then it should work.

Do you have the audio plugged into the input associated with the correct component input on the TV?

its for my wii so everything is like one cable. it has the 3 video and 2 audio cables.
it looks like i'm plugging them in the right jacks. i can't see how else it would go.

Are you plugging into the Audio input that's right next to the component input (AV1) rather than the one next to the composite / s-video inputs (AV2)?

(Tried to look up the manual to see how many inputs you had)

I have the same TV and bought it refurbished even before the funboy thread. It's almost 2 years old now and the only gripe I have with it really is a magnet mark on the upper-left side, apparently it's just an imperfection on this model and I deal with it fine now. I didn't buy mine directly from Philips, but went through a wholesale store that deals directly with them.

Did you get the extended warranty? My warranty includes on-site help in the event of a problem. I've never had the green light blinking like you do, but it may just be a thing where there's no source A/V and it's just waiting for one.

I really dunno how to help ya with this, but keep us informed.

i bought it refurbished. When I got it it wouldn't turn on so I called phillips and they gave me a number for a tv repair place near my house. Those guys fixed it free of charge and it has been working like a champ ever since.

looking at the back of the tv i have

1st column is yellow, white, red
2nd column is green, blue, orange(?)
3rd column is yellow, white, red
4th column is yellow, white, red

ok...i plugged the video in the 2nd column and the audio in the 1st and got nothing.
plugged audio into 3rd column and now have sound.

dvd player is plugged into 4th column. whats the 1st column for because when i switch to that input on the tv, i get no picture but i get the wii sounds...

Yup, I got mine for only $360, and that was 2 years ago. This has easily been the best thing I've ever taken a chance on and I couldn't be happier really. It had 500 hours on it when I got it and it's still going strong for me. No noticeable wear on the outside either, the only thing that SUCKS about it is the weight, sumofabitch is heavy as you should now know. If you figure this out and it works I'm sure it'll do the job for ya though, however I don't think it does 720p.. is the Wii 480 or 720?

uh oh. This is what I am worried about. I hope to bring home a new HDTV, and clean power in this apartment is a luxury. The apartment was built in the 191x's, and was re-wired in the sixties.

It doesnt do 720P but it does take the signal in and upscales it to 1080I so its all good still 😉

That tv has inputs up the ass in the back and has a set even on the side. The first set of yellow, red, white is input 1. If you get a dvd player I just cannot stress enough to get one with a HDMI output and upscales. The HDMI has audio through the cable and the picture is beyond beautiful when compaired to 480P or 480I standard dvd signal. Upscaled to 1080I through the HDMI is beyond words and what I woudl say is close to HD and had to look at it and know its not. HD on it looks very sweet as well. I had D sat running through it for a bit when I could and it was stunning. For $400~ nothing can touch it for price, picture quality, and size.

Sounds like you kind of have it working how you want?

Did yours come with a manual?

At any rate, I imagine funboy42 and some others that actually have the set would be more helpful at figuring out the inputs for you than me 😉
