Duterte has offered to quit numerous times over the past two years: if allegations of corruption against him and his children were proven; if he managed to push through a constitutional shift to federalism; if someone proved the existence of God; or if enough women signed a petition after he publicly kissed a female supporter on the lips.

“Our unsolicited advice: Just do it!,” Liberal Party vice president Erin Tanada said in a statement.

“We wonder who at this point is still taking the president to his words, given that he threatens to resign at least once a month?,” Tanada said. “Let’s give the president the benefit of the doubt that this time, he meant what he said that he was thinking of stepping down.”

The guy needs to stop playing and do it. I wonder if he or his family does drugs...

He may just declare martial law, just like Ferdie did. He needs more time to loot the country, so I doubt he'll resign. I wonder what his wife's shoe and jewelry collection looks like?
As he has drug dealers assassinated, he's probably building up his stash for profit.

Talking with 1st gen Filipino co-workers of mine who wish to repatriate upon retiring from their jobs here in the USA, they like Duterte for his strongman efforts to go after the drug dealers but they also think Duterte is controlling an increasing chunk of the trade as a silent third party.

From my talks with these folks, I found out that many gov't officials like mayors etc. have their own heavily armed personal security forces and wearing BDU's or other military issued outer wear is just asking to get arrested as a suspected member of an opposition paramilitary organization.

The only good fascist is a dead fascist.

Just sayin’.

This is a loosely thrown around word. While I might agree with your anti-fascist statement, I disagree with people calling others fascists, just because they don't subscribe to your view of things.
Are they all fascists, racists, xenophobes, nazis, Hitler, etc, because they just don't happen to share your views? I grew up in a Brady bunch type household, where we had myself, my brother, two sisters, and two step sisters. The only thing missing was Alice. In today's world, we were all too white. The point I'm trying to make, is stop calling everyone who doesn't share your political ideology a fascist. You will eat your guts up, having that kind of hate living inside you. Get out of the news bubble. They are fucking with your head.

It's pretty safe to label as a fascist a strongman dictator who doesn't believe in the rule of law and instead just murders hundreds and thousands of citizens without even having show trials. It's not a matter of political philosophy as such as it is a matter of monstrous inhumanity. Although both Stalin and Mao were at least nominally communists I personally class them into the same category.

And Trump's a wannabe-so far some of our strong social institutions are frustrating him.

Trump is an asshole, but he's not a Stalin or Mao. As far as your hundreds and thousands comment, which is is it, hundreds, or thousands? Please provide a citation.

Seems pretty draconian, but what will be the end result? Our war on drugs sends people to prison. It's probably more efficient and less costly to do it his way. A better idea might be to send all their addict and drug dealers to Amsterdam or Norway. Maybe we should too. An addict is an addict, and I've known very few who were able to quit for good. Since San Francisco is going to eventually fall into the ocean, lets send them all there. God has a plan!

Same - I also have a filipino coworker who often goes back to visit family, he cites that his family and everyone they know are in favor of what Duterte is doing.

Not saying it's right or not, I don't live there to give a real opinion on the matter.

It never ceases to amaze me how many times people here will say something stupid (usually without meaning to and because they have an incomplete understanding of the topic at hand) and then will just keep doubling down on that stupid rather than admitting they were wrong or just walking away.

Without the rule of law or even show trials, no one has anyway of knowing if the 'drug dealers' that Duterte has executed are really that, or if they're political opponents, or just random citizens he has murdered to create a culture of fear.

Sure, everyone loves a tyrant who fucks over the other guy, and not them.

Well, first, the guy is a fascist. Or, to be more descriptive, an fascist Strongman.

The supporters/enablers of right-wing Strongmen are right-wing authoritarians. Trust me, some rabble, useful idiot of a fascist isn't a fascist. Most have zero power outside of their own dysfunctional, toxic households. I don't wish ill will on right-wing authoritarians, I just hope they stop voting for, or supporting, fascist Strongmen.

Second, I don't label anyone I don't like as a fascist. Not that you would, but you could do a search just to see how often I throw that word at specific people. Not because you need to, but because you're implying that I apply that word to people I disagree with on such subjective things as the best flavor of ice cream.

But I do subscribe to the notion that the only good fascist is a dead fascist. Hence my avatar, and my personal anarcho-syndicalist political views. I truly believe that the people should rule themselves, and that all levels of hierarchy should be constantly tested for legitimacy and integrity.

Of course, if humanity can get past this current hurdle/filter/shitshow, and science and technology can advance so that we can all have molecular fabricators, then I'd transition to being an actual libertarian. Libertarianism (capital L) is just toddler-level "I don't wanna" politics. Libertarianism (small l) is only possible once humanity doesn't require other humans to function, which is physically impossible at the moment.

Short term and long term politics are, of course, mostly ignored in favor of saying that one particular political ideology will solve most problems in the next 5-10 years, when of course that isn't true. But, as someone who wants to be a libertarian, currently subscribes to anarcho-syndicalism, and is forced to ally with the only remotely sane political party, the left wing liberal Democrats, here I am.

But, again, fascists are only good when they're dead, and taught about in schools to attempt to avoid future fascism and authoritarianism movements that support them.
