any idea when will phenom x2 or dual core comes out?
maybe those phenom will have higher clock speeds than their quad counterparts.
 
Nobody knows. AMD said originally that they'd be releasing them in the 3rd quarter of this year. Now they're saying the 1st quarter of 08, which can be anytime between January 1st and March 30th. And let's hope that they're clocked higher than the quads.
 
Assuming the dominant clockspeed limitation in quad-phenom is heat output and AMD's desire to bin their chips GHz to be below some maximum target (say 136W max TDP) then AMD could choose to crank up the Vcore on Phenom X2 to boost the GHz (and consume their thermal budget) or leave the Vcore and sell low-power SKUs of Phenom X2's for laptops and so forth.
