Here, check this out.

Looks like OEM pricing on Phenom tri-cores is pretty competitive with E4xxx and 5000x2s, at least down in the 2.1 ghz range.

They accidentally refer to it as a quad in some of the marketing copy.

First it says
Change the way you do everything with extreme AMD triple-core processing ...
Then
The quad-core 2.1GHz Phenom 8400 processor delivers the ultimate ...

So it is a "triple-core" and a "quad-core". I always find it funny when advertisements mess up like that for some reason.

It's a triple core. the 9XXX series is the quads. I also found it interesting how almost all of CC's off-the-shelf PCs are Phenoms now. The only Intel quad is an off brand.

Looks like AMD may be cutting some manufacturers insanely sweet deals. Can't be good for ASPs, but must be great to show Phenom market penetration.

Was only a matter of time.

I don't foresee these being very sucessful with enthusiasts since they won't OC well, but for those looking for tri-quad core computing, AMD has some okay options.
