Phenom II X6 1055T HSF fan question

My 1055T rig is built and happy for the most part. Only thing that bothers me is how loud the stock fan on the HSF is considering how quiet the rest of the fans are.

I noticed that the fan can be clipped off fairly easily. Looks to be a standard vanilla 80mm fan. Anyone replaced theirs with a better fan? I'm looking for something much quieter. Recommendations appreciated.

rather than replacing the fan, you might be better off simply replacing the heatsink.

Agreed.

Stock heatsinks are designed specifically for that CPU...when you go replacing stock fans with quieter, lower RPM ones you destroy the specifics of the stock heatsink.

You best option is to either:

A) Live with the noise

-or-

B) Get a new heatsink

Those are the only two options in my eyes.

hexcore = heat.

get the largest sink you can possible afford / fit.

You can never have too much cooling unless its too much to fit inside your case.
You can however always have too little cooling.

Unfortunately, the computer is being used for work and not personal. The boss won't allow me to use an aftermarket cooler unfortunately. More than anything, it's a matter of budget which was barely enough to buy the computer parts. He won't approve of more expenditures on the computer. I managed to talk him into at least replacing the fan with my own money which he initially refused. But after reading AndroidVageta's comment about changing the specifics of the stock heatsink with a lower CFM fan, I may just suck it up and live with the noise. Which sucks because the office is dead quiet most of the time haha.

so im assuming this machine was built by you?

or was it provided?

And your using the stock cooling fan?

Tell your boss this...
Every 10C u lower your overall cpu temps, and with a good sink vs. stock sink, 10C is possible... you just effectively doubled the life of your processor.

Now ask him one more time... is that kind of insurance worth it on a business machine?

If you ask me personally, all my office machines have at least a tower air sink, if i built them.
They help the board as well as cool the cpu down very well.

additionally, am3 is really easy to install aftermarket hsf's for.

Machine was built for me by another person. I will talk to the boss tomorrow but I doubt I can sway him. His loss if the machine craps out early.
