Phenom II X4 965 BE temps & OC'ing question

Hello again AT forums. I finished my first AMD build since 2006 and just had a question about the temps of the 965 BE. I have an i3-2100 HTPC that idles around 32c (40c load, stock HSF) and was just wondering if the 965's are supposed to be this warm?

Seeing as how the max temp of the 965 is 60c, I'm not seeing a lot of headroom for OC'ing.

Case: XClio 320
HSF: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus (2 CM Blademasters in push/pull)
PSU: Corsair CX600
Case Fans: 2x Rosewill 74CFM fans (one intake front of case, one exhaust back of case)

EDIT: The room where the PC is sits at 80F (26.6c)

indeed, that is the working temp, i got a AMD Phenom II X4 B55 (the X2 555 unlocked) and with this heat (im from Mexico with almost 30° now) mine keeps betwen 45°C and 50°C

is not weird for a phenom II, in fact they are just in the right temp :3

but just in case, use compress air ones each month to prevent

i hope this help you, sorry for my english :3

Yes, that is definitely normal for a 965. I've built that exact same proc/fan combo with similar results. You should be able to hit 3.8 without too much effort and too much extra heat. I was able to hit that with only one tick up in vCore.

I have a 955 BE (stock 3200MHz) with a mild overclock of 500MHz on the stock cooler. I am also running stock voltage of 1.4v. CPU idles at 35c and runs at a max of 59-60c running prime 95. So if you are running stock speeds on your 965 black (3400MHz) that does seem a bit high given your cooler. Also are these temps during full load/high stress benchmarks or regular use/gaming?

That's about right. Your ambient of 26.6C is a touch on the high side, which would account for it being a couple degrees warmer than "normal".

Those are good load temps (50C) for 20 minutes of prime 95. You should be able to OC to 3.8. Try 3.6 and run prime95 to see your max.

Thanks everyone. You've eased my doubts about my setup. I'll try to OC it when I get off work. Just doesn't seem like 10-11c headroom for OC'ing isn't a lot.

Edit: I live in Southern California so it's already 80+ degrees here. The AC is set at 80 so the room temp won't go over that.
