Hey all. I have just ordered the components for a Phenom II X3 710 system, and was wondering if anyone knows what the minimum power supply requirements are. AMD's site has a system builder's guide, but the power supply section is blank.

What I have now is a Antec Sonata with Antec 380w power supply. This powers my current rig just fine : Asrock 939 Dual, s939 X2-3800, Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb, 2gb ram, 1 optical drive, 1 ide 120gb hard drive. I guess you can include the floppy and 2 120mm fans if you want.

Don't the Phenom II's draw less power than the old s939 dual core?

I would like to not have to drop another $50-60 just for a power supply, my budget is ultra tight currently.

I know everyone "recommends" 600w power supplies.... but what do I really need?

(I will update in a couple of days when the parts arrive if this thing is even operable on that 380w ps)

EDIT - Forgot to add, the new mlb will be an EVGA 730a

Cool! Thanks for the calculator link, that's kind of neat. Calculator says 315w for the new system (old system says 303w).

thats NON-overclocked. And your 380 * .75 (efficiency) would be 285 watts. I don't know the efficient, but you are really close. If it was 80% (not many are) thats 304 watts.

No, no, mark. The efficiency is how much current it draws from the wall, not how much it can provide. Plus, I think these PSUs are 80+ certified. So 380 divided by 0.8 is 475, which is the amount it would draw from the wall at full load.

OP, you will be fine. Dell runs their quad-core systems with 300w PSUs.
