Phenom II X2 550 vs Phenom X3 8600

Which is better? Which would you choose between these two?

I got a pretty sweet deal on a Phenom II X2 550 tonight on ebay with the HSF ($57.00 US won in an auction), thought I'd buy in case a budget build came up for somebody, which they always do.

I'm assuming the Phenom II would be the much better processor even though it has 1 less core? 7MB Cache vs 2 MB cache as well I believe...

Thinking I might pull the X3 out of my HTPC and put the X2 550 in it, and use the X3 8600 for a budget build for somebody looking for a $200-300 computer system for browsing, etc.

I've got a x2 5000+ laying around too.

I'd take the 550, but I'm a betting man and willing to try and unlock cores. Also, the thermals/TDP on the 550 should be better, so if there are any situations where the 8600 might be better in multi-threaded apps, you could probably make up for it with a bit of creative overclocking (and, thanks to the improved thermals, it should be feasible in your HTPC).

PhII X2 550 for sure. Might be one less core, but it is a much better OCer. That alone makes it better for gaming most of the time. More cores don't help in enough situations.
