Quite honestly, with a decent OC, and assuming the resolution isn't archaic, he could easily see some massive gains with the card over what he was using prior.

Yes but even with the CPU-NB at 3000mhz a 2500k is still a much better CPU.

And I wasn't trying to insinuate that the PhII is the better processor... just that overclocking the NB/L3 can lead to solid gains that are often overlooked as reviewers typically simply adjust the multiplier.

There's a nice fps boost for skyrim when ocing the cpu-nb on a PII. I think tomshardware had that graph.

There are games that will benefit from a faster/OCed CPU. There are games that are GPU limited. BF3 MP needs both a fast 4+ Core CPU and a good GPU, unless you want to play at low IQ settings.

I've just ordered 2x ASUS GTX 670 Direct CU II 'Non TOP' cards for SLI use in my 2600K system. My current MSI GTX 670 reference will go in my secondary system (Connected to a 1080p LCD TV in my living room), based on a Q9650 overclocked to 4GHz and DDR2 mem.

So will report back if I see bottlenecking, which I'm sure there will be. Q9650@4GHz even bottlenecked my previous Gigabyte GTX 570, a little bit. It varies greatly between games and resolution though.
