Phenom II Overclocking

I have an AMD Phenom II X4 965BE, a ASUS M4A88TD-V motherboard, 8GB (2x4) Corsair DDR3-1333, and 2x XFX 5770 in crossfire.

Now, stock clock on the 965BE is 3.4Ghz. I was effortlessly able to bump it to 3.75 at stock voltage, using 250Mhz HT and a 15x Multiplier.

Now, the annoying part. I want to bump it a little higher. But no matter what the voltage, even outrageous voltages don't work. Anything higher than 3750Mhz results in an instant lock under prime95. If I bump the multiplier up half a step, it locks. If I lower the HT and raise the mutliplier, it locks. It is generally fine at no load, but put a load on it and it just BSODs. Temps are under control (Using a Corsair H50 cooling kit, stays under 55 under prime95 at 3.75).

Am I doing something wrong here, or is this particular chip just incapable of going higher than 3.75, because that just seems rather low for a PhII with a watercooling kit.

if he decreased the FSB clock too then it is unlikely that this would work. It is more likely the problem is his CPU not being a stellar pick of the bunch.

When I first got my Phenom II X4 940, I only messed with the CPU multiplier. Even without raising the NB/IMC speed I had to raise the CPU-NB vid a little(+.025v) to get it stable at 3.9Ghz(with IMC voltage at default I topped out at 3.8). While it shouldn't be a factor in theory, it helped anyways( and like you, I had no idea why). It can't hurt him to try and see if he's in a similar situation that I was.

You have a 965BE. Don't bother with raising HTT for now. Just raise CPU multi, and then later the NB multi. Keep HT-link at 2000MHz.

By slightly raising the NB-HT/ NB voltage, and going to HTT 200Mhz, I'm able to get 3.9Ghz stable. Technically it's 3.92Ghz because when set to 200, the HT is actually 200.9. Whatever, not complaining. Good enough for me, thanks. Only thing is that CoolnQuiet doesn't seem to work now, it runs only 3.92.

Once you push the multiplier to over 18, CnQ stops. Instead, disable it in the BIOS and download PhenomMsrTweaker. It's a piece of software that mimics CnQ, but is completely adjustable. I've been using it for over two years and have had no issues.

When it freezes comp no matter if its high voltage or temp, Youve reached your max OC when you get the freeze. But make shure you tried proper voltages , ask AMD guru here, thx
