A lot of AM2 socket boards will take Phenom II. Not all do though. You need to check with the manufacturer to see if the model you are interested in has Phenom II suport.

Yeah. Looking through the available BIOS updates to see if you can find one that added Phenom II support would be the easiest way to determine compatibility.

anyway... i see the prices dropping maybe i can get the board with the processor for less later on lol... maybe when new stuff appear lol

unfortunately asus is not giving am3 support to it looks like their am2 based boards. those all seem to be am2+ boards.


i know asrock has bios updates for even Am2 boards (there is even an nforce 3 board ontheir list with agp)

I don't have any real evidence, but i do have a suspicion, and a mild hope, that Phenom II will function in a lot of older AM2 boards, but will show up as an unknown processor... even without a bios upgrade. More user experiences from people who've tried it will probably show up as postings online, as the weeks go by. A quick search turned up a posting by someone who has tried one in a M2A-VM board, which does not officially support Phenom 2, and in which case it worked and showed up as an unknown processor.
