Seems nice, if AMD can get it within price range of a E7300, then it would most likely be a big hit.

AMD for the win on this. Wow. If its sub $150, AMD is back. Triple core, easy clock to 3.7ghz, man..

I should have waited..

How do you figure?

Well until you seen him running some stress testing I wouldn't count 3.7ghz as golden...as my attempt to get OC accounts has shown, that by no means is guaranteed....plus I have seen one first hand and by no means is it an easy overclock....lots of variables, and far more complicated to OC and to GET STABLE....

Also as seen in the lat launch the cherry picked demo chips dont always tell the whole story....

I have seen a few Frys ads where a person could buy a quad core Q8200 with a mobo for 159-179....I will take that chip over this any day when it comes to ocing...

The X3 720 is no more weird than your typical Celeron. What's strange is that the first AM3 available is one with a fused core. I did a double take at first. The price looks very good though.

I do. They're failed Phenoms anyway so I guess I'm not surprised. Phenoms in general give me this kind of reaction:

AMD is trying avoid an i7/x58/ddr3 situation. They want AM3 platforms to be low-cost and ubiquitious. That starts by having ridiculously low-cost processors to go into the system. This spurs mobo makers to ramp volume on AM3 mobo's which in turn drives down costs per unit.

A generous portion of x58 mobo costs is due to the fact that any given mobo maker will be lucky/happy to sell 1/10 as many LGA1366 boards as they are selling LGA775 boards. Low volume requires higher price premium to cover the fixed investment costs of developing the mobo in the first place.

Judging that the price is going to be ~$150, color me not impressed. The Phenom II 920 sits at $189 retail. The Phenom II 910 will be coming out shortly, and will just about have to sit at a lower price point than the 920... possibly $170ish. The only benefit the 720 will have is an unlocked multiplier. For ~$20 you can get an additional core and overclock "the hard way" if you really wanted to.

AMD's triple-core pricing has never really made much sense, at least not until the 8450 made it under $100. If the Phenom II X3 720 started at $135, now that would be another story all together.
