Hi,

I'm running my phenom II 940 stock @ 3ghz, and i'm getting crappy results, only 11k gpu in vantage, as i got 9k with my old GTX260 core 216.

Also, crysis fps doesn't seem to be anything amazing, only 17fps average on max settings (1080p, 4XAA)

Card is Sapphire hd5870 1gb

I'm using vista ultimate 64bit.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

Here you can see E6850 scoring more than mine...14k GPU!

Do you have any other games to bench? If so try that.
Do you have the latest drivers for your card and chipset?
What motherboard you running?

answer these to help us help you.

Hi...

1. Yes, i have RE5, i averaged 66.4 FPS on the bench. I've seen 5870's going for 100+ fps. I overclocked to 3.3 for a while, just to test.. and got 70.4 fps, not much of an improvement.
2. Drivers, yes. Chipset... not sure.

at 1920x1080 your stock cpu should easily deliver over 90% of what a single 5870 is capable of so its certainly not a problem. those numbers sure dont sound right though.

Thats what they told me, it should do okay with gaming (not beat i7 in vantage tho :D) Many games do not even support quad. Including crysis... which i only get 17fps average.

As you can see in the link i provided E6850 scoring 14k GPU (mine 11k...) and 9K cpu....

EDIT: Would re-installing windows help, if it's a driver problem ?

You said you had a GTX 260 previously. Have you used a driver cleaner or reformatted to clean all traces of the old Nvidia drivers off your system? IMO that is probably the reason for your below satisfactory performance.

I used a cleaner... i still have ntune in my add/remove tho. Trying to unistall but it doesn't work.

Never re-formatted tho, as i said above :p

At which setting did you got that score? I scored 99.7 at 1280x1024, 8x FSAA, Variable Frame rate and everything on High on a HD 4870, RE5 is quite CPU dependant but with such powerful card you should perform faster, do a driver reinstall and use my score as a guideline to see if it performs much better.

That's because you are CPU limited in that game, then crank up your anti aliasing settings!

There's no way he should be getting 14.95fps minimum, 27 max, and 21 average in Crysis Warhead at 1280x1024. A Radeon HD 4850 could get double that at those settings.

I suggest that the OP reinstalls windows to remove the possibility of driver conflicts.

Weird thing is, in rpg (risen). With GTX260 i got 57 fps in the same savegame (scene...) and with 5870 it's 98 fps... seems like an improvement in this game tho

Agree, probably should reinstall. And of course make sure it's actually running at 3.0Ghz and isn't downclocked to 800 Mhz or something during the benching.

There's no way his CPU is going to keep him from averaging more than 22FPS in Crysis. If it's actually running at 3.4GHz, there's no way a CPU limitation is the cause of his problems.

Definitely sounds like driver conflicts to me. In case you haven't already, try checking gpu-z just make sure your new card is running properly.

Crysis was running in a ultra high resolution which will be far more GPU bound than CPU bound, also RE5 is considerably more CPU bound because it won't tax the HD 58x0 series hard enough. I found a trick editing a config file in the user directory. Go to My Documents/Capcom/Resident Evil 5/ and open the config file, find a keyword called Jobthread, when a Quad Core setup is detected, it will use the value 3, which means that 3 threads will be used and the 4th will be left for the system, I put 4 in there, and my scores increased between 2fps and 14fps average.

Can a person get driver conflicts switching from one ATI card to another ATI card?

Or does this only occur with Nvidia-->ATI or ATI--> Nvidia swaps?

Maybe your cpu is throttling. In other words, it's running to hot, so it doesn't run as fast as it could be. Have you checked the heatsink being on your cpu properly? You should run prime95 and check temperatures with speedfan/realtemp.

As for Crysis, no shit you're getting 17fps avg with 4xAA, are you crazy? In Crysis Warhead my own benchmark gets me 22fps min, and 28fps avg at 1920*1200 with 0xAA and everything on enthusiast (that's dx10).

Check the BIOS' on-board graphics setting. IGP should be turned off and should not be allocated system memory.

Just making sure, did you check your cpu temps? Download speedfan and then download prime95 here, but make sure you download 32bit or 64bit, depending on your OS !!!

Then tell us what temperatures you get. If your PC crashes when running prime95, something is definately wrong.

Had it on about 13 minutes, CPU 124F/51C, Core 129F/54C. No errors. I did run this before with my GTX260 for about an hour without errors....

Playing crysis GPU LOAD is 78 to 80%

And gpuz shows 850/1200MHZ, should be right.

Hmm, do you only see 2 cores in speedfan ? Go to task manager, and check your cpu-tab, how many cores do you see there?
