Well I got my rig up and running(for a while now) and am going to delve into OCing..
have a gigabyte gama790xud4p mobo
sapphire hd 4850 1G vid card
Need advice on a heatsink that will fit and cool well.
Rosewill 5600 series case.
Any help??

I believe heatsink compatible with a socket AM2 CPU work with a AM2+/AM3 CPU.

Here are my 3 top value picks:
Xigmatek 1283 - $27
Cooler Master Hyper 212 - $30
Scythe Mugen 2 - $35

All of these are about 160mm in height. I am not sure the dimensions of your case so make sure to measure it to see if you have 16 cm of clearance from the cpu socket.

That's basically the same cooler as the 1283 but instead of push pins it has the better bolt through mounting system. Although at $45 it's pushing a bit steep. Zalman CNPS10x Extreme for $49.99 with $10 promocode

You could always reuse the Zalman and Scythe Mugen 2 down the line for Core i7 processors.

Sorry to hijack, but I have the same CPU and I have a CM690 case. I was looking into Coolers that don't need the removal of the mobo to install.

There is no backplate for the Xigmatek 1283 or 1284EE. Both of these are under $30 at Newegg.
