phenom 2 x4 940 heat problem on 780g mobo

i have this setup

gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H mobo
passive cooling 2600pro gpu
asus 400watt psu
2 1gb hdd
phenom 2 x4 940 + zipang sychte 140 mm hsf
case aero m40

i had x2 5600+ before installing this processor
everything was ok. processor was idling around 27c
i upgraded bios to latest f10
than installed phenom 940

when i look at the temps phenom was idling around 55c and was going through 70c under load. (one time i saw 83c, that was before i read max temp for that processor was 62c)
i changed the thermal paste and reinstalled the heatsink to no avail.
it still idles at around 55c

i read something about 780 boards being uncompatible with 125 watt processors. but that seems last years problem. gigabyte site clearly states that it works with phenom 2 x4 940

what may be the problem, i really need some solution

edit : the problem is not only the temp but it crashes when under load.
 
My situation has pretty much mirrored yours. I went from a 5600+ on a GA-MA790X to my 940BE, cooled by a Zalman CNPS8000. My idle temps (at stock, and with Cool n Quiet doing its job) shot up to 49C, and it will frequently hit the high 60s under load. It seems to me the cooler just isn't up to the task - something I'll be able to confirm when I finally get around to mounting a proper cooler.

Incidently, do you have good case cooling? Installing better fans can easily knock a few degrees off your CPU temps.
 
i did install an additional 8 mm fan at the back near the cpu fan. it made temps go down 3-4 degrees. and i decreased the clock from 15 to 12 , since i couldnt find any place in f8 bios to decrease the voltage. i will google and try it that way.
but after these two changes it didnt go off as easily as before. It restarted two or 3 times last couple of days.
i think there is an inherent problem with the mainboard with 125 watt processors. NB temps are too high
i read similar complaints . i think at the end i will drop the cpu and go back to +5600 and oc the shit out of it.
