Phd or Dr. ????

M.D. is a medical doctor; it's considered an undergrad degree.

Ph.D. is a doctor of philosophy; it's consered a graduate degree.

Heck, you don't even need to go to schooll to be called "doctor" (See Dr. Dre and Dr. Dre). You go to school just so they can call you "sir" without adding "you're making a scene".

Yeah, I'm still wondering about that undergrad comment myself. How an MD is considered an undergrad degree, I guess I'll never know. I mean, considering you need an undergraduate degree before you even start pursuing the thing.

Do you definitely need an undergrad degree? A friend told me he knows a few that don't (finished 3 years of undergrad, went to med school without finishing their bachelors)... I was kind of baffled at that... I guess it's a rare thing maybe?

I've never heard of it being called an undergrad degree though...

There are a FEW people that get into programs where they do what you said. Theres some similar law programs. But these instances arent all that common. I dont know how someone can say an M.D. is an undergrad degree. MDs, JDs and PhDs are ALL upper level graduate degrees. Except MDs and JDs typically get paid more than PhDs.

Medicinae Doctor
Philosophiae Doctor
Jurum Doctor

you can get a doctorate (i.e. Pharmacy) without getting a PhD. IIRC PhD basically means you've done and submitted research and then recieved your PhD from a board of other PhD after they give you a review/oral exam.

Some PhDs make more than MDs or JDs. In any case, the main difference between a MD and a PhD is that while you can get an MD taking classes and doing a training program (med student and residency), you need to perform and defend original research to get a PhD, which is arguably more difficult. However, I don't have what it takes to be a medical doctor, so I can't really say much.
