Phat Linux on a laptop?

I tried installing Phat 4.0 on a solo9300 but the lcd display wont display properly(vertical lines) and the computer locks. I tried several differant display choices with the same results. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
 
Sounds like an X-related problem. If it offers text-based setup, try that. Otherwise, you'll need to use a different distro.
