i am starting my second yr of college and basically taking basics (except for biology, pre-cal, trig) and i attend a jr. college right now.

next yr i will need to move onto a university and as of yet, i have decided to go into pharmacy. i heard it has great pay and has demands all over the world.

can anybody fullfill me what classes are needed to be taken exactly (math/science)and what school are good in texas or other states? thanks

thanks for ur response, please everybody add your share of thoughts if you read my thread, it will greatly help me

ajpa123, is this affiliated with a public university or private/public institute? whats her avg semister cost?

Im not pharmacy student, but I wouild think the study there would include chemistry, organic chemstry, zoology, biology, and all sorts of life sciences with lab......and probably not too much math.

Hey, all of info is on that site except tuiton. I honestly don't know what she pays (i mean what her parents pay!)
I suggest you do some diggin on your own on the internet and at your library!

The pay is insanely good right now (at least $70k to start) Sign on bonuses are over $5k if you have a good personality and went to a good uni.

To get into pharmacy school the requirement are very very similar to the requirements for getting in med school.

Once you graduate pharmacy school, you'll pretty much be looking at 80k + for the rest of your life. Pharmacists that work in supermarkets get around 80k here and all they do is count pills and fill prescriptions

Difficult requirements, boring job, and good pay. 2/3 of the people who start Pharm at UTK will not make it into Pharm school for various reasons including, but not limited to, stupidity and lack of motivation. There are lots of biology and chemistry requirements, and, at least at UTK, there is only 1 year of calculus required. If you're going into Pharm for the money, I would suggest looking for something else to do.

Robots that count perscription pills are replacing pharmacists now. 🙁

The machines are out for your job.

lol...

what kind of businesses could you start if you're degreed(?) in pharmacy along with minors in business?

yea i am taking pharmacy because of a primary reasons: easy money

i really cannot decide which field i wanna go in.. thought of business but in what exactly..? 😕

The PCAT is pretty easy, I scored crazy high on it. I decided not to go to Pharmacy School for various reasons (sometimes I kick myself in the butt) however a friend of mine did and recently graduated. She is already bored with it. Sure she is making some pretty nice money, real nice money - but it is the entire not being happy with what you are doing thing that makes it not worth while.

About six or so years ago it was pretty easy to get into Pharmacy School - easy being relative. Now, though, a lot of students are applying and it is pretty competitive.

I gathered you are somebody that recently started college. Sure the idea of making big easy money sounds good when you are a kid, but after a bit in the 'real world' having a meaningful job that you find interesting is worth a whole lot more.

If you choose to go into pharmacy do so because you really enjoy it, not because it is easy money. This is true for nearly everything.

This is absolutely correct. If you don't wake up in the morning and look forward to going to work most of the time, you should do something else. You won't care about the money if you spend 40+ hours a week bored out of your mind.

That said, if you don't have any clear idea of what you want to be doing, you might as well go after something that looks like easy money. Pharmacy school will be expensive though, so if you have to pay for it you'll be stuck in the field for a while until you pay off your loans.

Pharmacy always looked to me like it was a profession for folks who couldn't get into med school. But I guess that's not the case.

I never understood why the schooling was so difficult for what is essentially a mindless job. I recognize that there's a huge difference with those in the research aspect of it (i.e. at a pharmaceutical company), but why should someone who coutns pills at the local grocery store be required to get the same education as some dude doing pharmaceutical research? So pointless.

The one pharmacist I know (mid-20's) absolutely HATES it. She is bored out of her skull. I'm surprised why more of them don't start an addiction to one of the several substances they dispense - apparently they are bored enough, and with all that access, you'd think....

I've always thought the excessive schooling was for liability reasons. Pharmacists are supposed to know about drug interactions and such.

My ex g/f's brother works for Right Aid as a pharmacist in Colorado, and from what I hear, he gets good pay (~90K?), but hates his job. Like others have said, it's all about counting pills and answering questions from mostly grumpy and annoying people.

I was a pharmacy major when it was only a 5yr program, I think its a 6yr program now with a pharm. d title. I kinda kick myself for not finish it, or partying too much. anyway, one of friends did finish it, he is now working at stop n shop making good money, but his job is boring. If you want a job that pays good money but boring and stand on your feet all day, this is it. 😉
