Eh, lets see if anyone makes games for it.. I was hoping that it would have been built on a nice, low-overhead Linux OS..

This gonna be like what...$800? Remember that other console a few years back that retailed at $800 when it first came out?

Do I hear someone starting a slow clap for this? .... And then he looks like a schmuck because no one claped with him.

It just sounds like a minipc.. If it is sub-$300 I'd buy it just to steal the "upgradeable" CPU and hard drive (maybe the video card too).. But I have a feeling that it will ring in close to $1,000.. insane for a console.. $500 seems more reasonable but no one would purchase it for that price other than a few hard core gamers- but what company would invest the resources to make software for such a small niche?

I heard about this a few months ago. I think one of their big selling points was that you could run unmodified PC games on it.

Woohoo, a console that plays games on my TV that I can already play better on my PC. 😕

Does the Phantom console and games have a set price point?

It has, but what I would say is the price point for the baseline Phantom will be below $399 and the VPGN should hit at $9.95 per month. The Phantom will come with preloaded games in the box so, literally, no pun intended, you?ll be able to play right out of the box.

The titles themselves will have a price range from $2.99 to $50, it depends on the type of game and the release. It does vary from game to game, but we are able to offer the game at a much more affordable rate because there?s not the package, not the shelf space, typical retail expenses like that.

Ha! They have a link to reserve a Phantom but they don't give you any clue on how much the thing costs.

Are these games made by the company itself or are the games just current pc games licensed to be in their system?

It's hard to just start a console nowadays without big money behind you to get developors signed on. Seems kind of pointless going up against Microsoft and Sony at this time.

They aren't going to make any money on this unless they charge $500 per system. MS already had the most pc-like console and they are losing $$ on it. I doubt the phantom developers are going to be able to make better deals with hardware vedors than MS, plus they have to get developers who may already have exclusive contracts with the other gaming companies. I doubt this is going to work.

Might be something neat if it works properly. From what I can tell, it's basically a PC but built for gaming and cheap. I've seen that they are shooting for a $300 base price. Looks to me like they are going to offer a vast library of PC games. I'm guessing they will optimizing it for the unit by setting the graphics and all the settings. Then, you download the game allready setup and ready to go. You pay by the month since games get old. You can probably outright purchase them as well if you really like it. It's all hooked up online ready to go with it's own playground. For a lot of people, this would be great. It hooks up to the TV and plays your computer games with hopefully good joysticks and guaranteed online compatibility for leagues and CS type games. If they can get a good price and get people to look at it, it might be a good little product.
