With Newegg, Amazon, etc, there's usually a chance of receiving an opened and repackaged as "new" item. It's happened to me a few times before. Makes it worth mulling over extra shipping cost for a direct purchase. Thanks.

If that happens, they would ship you a new one and pay for the old one to go back, assuming you aren't buying items from 3rd party sellers.
I've been shopping at both of retailers you listed for over 18 years, and I've never received an used item Newegg or Amazon said was new. I've placed almost 100 orders with Amazon this year alone. But it's your money to spend if you want to pay extra shipping.
